My Shares, Challenges 8-17

Hi All!
I think I need to take pictures and post these more than once a week...but we'll see if that happens. It has been good for me to make the decision to take some time every day to draw. It really is a peaceful thing to do in the morning...and if my eyes hold out...a great way to unwind in the evening too! It has really been a blessing. Now onto my shares:
Challenge #8
This is my hand, if you can't figure that out by the extreme closeup....This is the ring I got for Mother's Day this year. It has a stone for my hubby, and all 5 of my kids...they are where they belong....inside of my heart! I love this ring...I've always wanted a ring with my kids birthstones on it...and this one's even better! It has my hubby too, and all of their names written on it on the sides. Very fun ring!
I didn't have the right colors of watercolor pencils to paint the correct color of the gold ring...it's a much lighter, softer gold than that...and the Diamond stone...the whiteness, and sparkly-ness of it usually makes it stand out more than the rest...which didn't happen on this. :o)

Here's an even closer look at the ring...
Challenge #9 Organized Chaos...
Yes, I could have drawn so many things....but while drawing a zentangle, and talking to my daughter about what I should draw for it....I showed her the progress on my large zentangle...saying.."now THIS is organized chaos".....and it hit me....I could do a zentangle! AND...Being as I had read last week sometime...that doodling was like a heart song....I couldn't get this one children's Primary song out of my head...so I zentangled the song:

"I think the world is glorious and lovely as can be
The birds, and bees, and blossoms bring sweet messages to me..
I sing, and sing, and sing, and sing....a song of joy and love...
I sing, and sing, and sing, and sing...my thanks to God above."

Here's a close up of the drawing, you can see all of the words of the song on it:

Challenge #10 Draw a hand.
As an interpreter, I just HAD to draw a sign....and what better sign? :o)

Here's a close up....it's my daughter's hand, she was kind enough to be my model. :o)

Oh NO! I just saw that I have numbered the drawings wrong from here on! grrr...bummer...
Here is Challenge #11 (not 10) Sunglasses...I really wanted to try to paint black and see if I could it to work. I think the drawing looked better than the painting...but the painting looks better to me this week than it looked to me last week. I hated them last week. Interesting how that works sometimes...I need to remove myself for things and come back to them later to get a better assessment of what I did.

Challenge # 12 (not really 11) This was a delicious Dinner..but a real pain to draw and paint. I shouldn't have cut my sandwich before I took the pic... LOL. I see I should have painted the weather box...it looks like it's begging to be colored in! :o)
Challenge # 13 (not 12) Draw a phone.
If I had had enough time...I would have drawn my Mickey Mouse phone...but also, my hubby was sleeping in the room, and I didn't want to go into the room to get it, as it might bother him. ...So, I drew the cell phone that my daughter in law handed down to me when she got her iPhone. My old cell phone...(that used to be my daughter before she got married) Was so old, and stopped working..so my DIL gave me hers. It's a nice phone...(it's no iPhone) But I hate to use cell phones...I don't trust them to not cause tumors, and only want to use them with a ear bud or a blue tooth. So...I often don't bring mine with me....unless I think I might get lost...and I usually leave it turned off most of the time. I don't give out this number, because I don't check it, or have it on. Only my family knows the number, and they know I keep it turned off most of the time. I do know it has come in handy for emergencies. :o)
I decided to draw it closed, 'cause that's how I see it the most.

Challenge #14 (not 13) What I see the first thing when I wake up.....my Daisy Dog. There she is, with a trusty toy....usually those tiny tennis balls they make for small dogs. It was hard to draw, but the pic of it doesn't even show all of the detail, sadly. I'm still not happy with the drawing...she was a weird angle to draw...with her one paw up and around her toy ball..but that's her....always having to bring a toy with her where ever she goes. :o)
Sabbath Day.....While hubby took his Father's Day nap....I drew this card for him...not a part of the challenge...I don't draw the challenge on the Sabbath Day....taking a break from it on Sundays, and drawing something else on that day.
Here's a close up of the Dad Zentangle:
Challenge #15 (not 14) Draw a leaf or tree...I drew a tree IN a leaf...how's that for different? I even made the letters have leafy veins in them....This was so much fun to draw!
I drew it on the first day of Summer...
Here are some close ups to see details:

Challenge # 16 (not 15) Draw your favorite tool....I use a lot of tools...I thought about it...and decided to draw the one I use the most....My fairly new MacBookPro.
Challenge #17 (not 16) Draw a musical Instrument
Well...I pondered this a LOT! I even did a google image search and made a picture file. I really have a desire to draw and paint some musical instruments..but not so much in this journal...but in a series of studies, and drawings and paintings...another time...So...I thought I would draw here, something fun....and what is more colorful than a toy Xylophone? I saw a few online that were cute...but I took one butterfly one I saw, drew the xylophone part of that one....then added my own changed up butterfly.

I used light blue watercolor for parts of the butterfly body, then markers for the rest.... and one grey color pencil for shadows and dimension. This was fun....and I wish I owned this toy for real....it would be fun to play with it with my grandkids!

EDM Shares for #3-7

Well, my Daughter and her family left Sat. afternoon to their new house, and location. So, I had some time to get more drawing done....But I already miss them, and wonder when I'll get to see them all again! The grandchildren grow so fast, they won't look the same the next time I see them...they also probably won't remember who I am either! Now THAT is a hard thing for me!

Anyway....Here are my drawings for the Every Day Matters Challenge:

I decided to make this drawing journal have more than just drawings....after seeing others add the date and weather...I decided to add some things to mine that I'll love to see years from now.

For #3 I tried to waterpaint in this journal, but the paper is SO thin and it wrinkled SO badly that I'm not sure I want to attempt more watercoloring on it, unless it's very minimal...not sure yet. I may try Mineral Spirits with color pencils....we'll see. Until I decide, I just use pencils. Here is the #3, Draw a Purse. I like to draw blanket stitches almost as much as I like to blanket stitch for real! :o)

#4 Draw A Mug or Cup. I just took 2 cups that were different sizes, colors, set them up in a weird position together, and tried to draw them that way. They sure look a lot lighter in the photo then they do in person!

#5 My bed is just a boring frame, but I usually see it in the daytime with my husband sleeping in it, (he works midnights) So....I thought the bed looked much more interesting with him in it...which is the way I see it anyway.

#6 My mother got rid of all of my treasured toys in one of her manic moments while I was at school. I was so upset! So...I tend to cling to things now....But!
My favorite now-a-day toy IS my ipod touch! (It would be an ipad if I had one) :o) I bring my ipod touch with me everywhere! (I call it my itouch for short) It has all of my scriptures in it, where I can highlight them, make note in them....so handy! It has my calendar, a bunch of lists and notes, pics of my grandkids (and my kids LOL) It has some good mind challenging games to get my mind invigorated, It has over 100 books in there to read, and oh yeah....MUSIC too! At home with my wifi, it also has the weather, the internet, facebook, twitter, radio stations....all without paying any monthly fee! It's great waiting in Drs offices, it's handy anywhere I go! Here's drawing #6:
I didn't draw the next challenge on Sunday...it didn't fit the feel of the peaceful, pondering day I was having after such a wonderful, spiritual time at church. So I found a quote I like and drew from there.

When I drew this...I was pondering all of the blessings my kids have brought to me....and how blessed I am. After making this....it looked a little boastful...and that saddened me a lot. It wasn't meant that way when I made it....It was more of a reminder to me as to how I want to live...to always strive to be better...to do good, to serve others, to laugh daily, and pray daily.

I really think that not only have we taught our children things..(hopefully more good things than bad things, because no matter what we do, we're examples, good or bed to everyone we meet, and especially to our children)...
My children have also taught us things...and they have helped us to raise the bar, and try harder to do better ourselves...my kids are pretty good people, and good examples for us too.... and that is just another blessing we have!

#7 Draw a jar from the kitchen. I put this jar in front of the blinds this morning, and it made such a cool warp...that I had to draw it that way!
OK....that's all for now...Back to life.....
Have a great day!
Pam

My New Journal

EDITED NOTE: (I figured out how to stand up this picture, so I'm adding it now. I still haven't colored it in yet, but plan on doing this soon....probably when I get back from Michigan.)

Hi all,
What a beautiful day it is today!
I didn't get to start sketching as soon as I had planned. A visit from my daughter, and her family. They had a seminar, and after visiting for awhile, they were leaving my grandchildren here to watch while they were at their seminar. It's not possible to watch, hold, feed, and cuddle a 5 month old and watch, chase, feed, read to, and cuddle a 2 year old, and get all of the extra's done as well. But, finally, I got a sketch book! I know it's not the best paper, but it was affordable, and nearby to purchase, so we'll see how well it will work for what I'm trying to do. I also pulled out my watercolor pencils, and some watercolors....I think I'm going to try to do some watercolors, and not just sketching....which scares me, but I'm stepping outside of my comfort zone, so I might as well step way out! :o)
Before I drew the challenges, I started on my cover page:

I'm wondering if anyone knows why, when I cropped my pics on my new-ish MacBookPro, that when I put the pics in here, the crop, and the rotating disappeared? What am I doing wrong? I'd Love to know. This cover page will be colored in...I just haven't done it yet....I'l get to that after all of the company leave. :o)

Here is my first Drawing challenge for Every Day Matters.
#1 Draw a Shoe:
(sorry the crop didn't work!)

And here is EDM #2, Draw a Desk lamp. This is a lamp I WISH I had:
I post again after company leaves....
Enjoy your day!
Pam

Hey all...or just me. :o)
I first made this blog 2 years ago, then I never came back! The best laid plans! LOL

Now, I'm going to try to start this up again....Here is my first entry. (again) LOL

I have joined a group of some amazing artists, and I just accepted a challenge to draw 31 things from a list for the month of June. So....now that I've accepted that challenge, and wrote it out....it's time to start drawing. (and to learn how to use this blog)

Before I draw from the challenge, I think I'll try to share a "zendoodle" type doodle I just sent to my daughter who left last week for an 18 month mission for our Church. I hope this works....and hope it can click to a bigger size, so the details can show up. I hope you enjoy it, It's full of many things that symbolize many Spiritual things, and have some great Scriptures, and Hymns written in it too! Needless to say, my daughter LOVES Rainbows and stripes.

Take some time to enjoy your day!
